Birth chart FAQs

Your chart explained

In astrology, the Birth Chart, also known as the Natal Chart, is a celestial snapshot showing the exact positions of the planets and other cosmic bodies at the moment of your birth. It is your unique celestial DNA, offering insight into the different areas of your life. Imagine it as a cosmic photograph that captures the symphony of the sky at your first breath. It is not just a chart, but a singular moment in time, as unrepeatable and special as you are.

You need three essential details: your date of birth, your exact time of birth, and your birthplace. Enter them in the form above, then click “Calculate my chart”. Accuracy matters, because even small variations in time or location can shift the houses and angles in your chart.

We’ve got you covered – and we mean really covered! Reading a Birth Chart can feel overwhelming at first. It requires familiarity with astrological symbols, planets, signs, houses, aspects, and the ability to weave them all into a cohesive interpretation.

That’s exactly why we created a step-by-step guide to walk you through it all. From spotting the Ascendant to understanding planetary aspects, we’ll help you make sense of your chart, symbol by symbol. Click here to download our “How to Read a Birth Chart” free PDF guide.

Or, if you prefer a broader introduction, check out our Astrology for Beginners article, where we break things down clearly and accessibly.

We use precise NASA data to calculate planetary positions, ensuring that your chart reflects astronomical reality with the highest possible accuracy. Your data is NOT stored on our servers; it remains in your browser unless you choose to download or share it.

Your exact birth time is essential because it determines the position of the Ascendant (Rising Sign) and the placement of the houses in your birth chart. These elements change quickly – especially the Ascendant, which can shift signs every two hours or less. Even a small time difference can lead to a completely different Rising Sign and house configuration.

Without the correct time, your chart may not reflect the accurate angles and timing of key life themes. While you can still get some insight from just your birth date, a precise birth time allows for a complete, personalized chart – and a much deeper understanding of your personality, potential, and life path.

Yes, you can still generate a chart without your exact birth time – but with some limitations. When the birth time is unknown, most astrologers use a method called a solar chart, which sets the chart based on a default time (usually noon). This allows you to explore planetary placements like your Sun, Moon (if it didn’t change sign that day), Mercury, Venus, and more.

However, keep in mind that without your birth time, your Rising Sign (Ascendant) and house placements cannot be calculated accurately. These elements are crucial for understanding how your personality expresses itself, how you experience different areas of life, and the timing of key events.

If you’re unsure of your birth time, consider checking your birth certificate or asking a family member. Some countries allow you to request this information from public records.

Your birth chart doesn’t change, but your life does, and so do you.
Since the natal chart is a web of interconnected and interdependent symbols, its potential meanings are endless.

What evolves over time is your ability to read it, to understand it, to integrate its insights, and to heal through them. Each time you return to your chart, a new layer may reveal itself – like a window: the frame remains the same, but the view through it shifts as you grow.

Astrology is not deterministic, it doesn’t dictate your fate, but rather illuminates the landscape of your inner and outer world. Your birth chart is a symbolic map, not a set of fixed instructions. It reveals your inherent tendencies, strengths, and challenges, but how you engage with those energies is entirely up to you.

Think of it this way: astrology shows you the weather, but you decide whether to bring an umbrella, dance in the rain, or change direction altogether.

At Born Under Saturn, we see astrology as a tool for awareness, not limitation. It empowers you to understand your patterns, align with your deeper purpose, and consciously shape your path, always in dialogue with your free will. In short: your chart shows your potential, not your prison.
