A birth chart is like a vast room, filled with countless doors and windows. We can choose which one to open first, but all of them eventually lead us inside the same space. Each entrance is simply a different beginning.
To analyze Princess Diana’s birth chart, we will begin in the classic way: with the Big Three, the Sun, the Ascendant, and the Moon.

The Sagittarius Ascendant added a fiery dimension to Princess Diana’s personality: that rebellious, free, unconventional side we perhaps perceived in the way she challenged the very system she had entered, in part, for love, a very Cancer Sun theme.
Famously, Diana refused to include the traditional promise to “obey” her husband in her wedding vows. Even more iconic was the so-called Revenge Dress, worn on the same evening that then-Prince Charles publicly admitted to his infidelity. Instead of disappearing into humiliation or silence, Diana chose to appear in public wearing a dress that stood completely outside royal protocol.

Here we can see Princess Diana shaking hands without gloves, refusing to abandon the humble work she had done before her marriage, and choosing a way of communicating that was open, modest, direct, and profoundly real.
But this was also a wounded Moon, marked by tension with Mars and Uranus and perhaps frightened by that nervous, combative, masculine energy. It is a Moon that can sometimes feel too much, a Moon that may struggle to release its inner tension, as if the emotional world were constantly charged with an electricity it could not easily discharge.
The same Moon also forms a square to Venus, the other planet traditionally associated with the feminine, placed in her Fifth House. It is always easy to read astrological facts in hindsight, once we already know the story. And yet, it is interesting to consider how the suffering in love, the public betrayal, and the denied affection Princess Diana experienced could be seen in this Moon filled with challenges.
It is as if her emotional nature — free, independent, and proud — struggled to find a peaceful expression in life, in the desire to build a couple, and in the ideal of a love that may have been too perfect because it was also trying to fill an unhealed childhood emptiness. Too perfect, perhaps, not to collapse once it met reality.
The fairy tale of the princess did not save the woman. If anything, it exposed the wound even more. What was supposed to offer belonging became another place where she had to fight to remain herself.

And yet, symbolically, it can speak, among many other things, of a relationship with nourishment marked by restriction, self-denial, self-punishment, or a kind of perfectionism that slowly turns into closure.
Diana herself spoke openly, in true Sagittarius Rising style, about her struggle with bulimia, describing it as “a secret disease” and “a cry for help.” Perhaps, with Jupiter in the Second House, food may originally have been connected to joy, comfort, pleasure, and emotional connection. But when that connection was missing, denied, or taken away, even nourishment itself could become a place of subtraction rather than abundance.
The same Saturn also forms a square to her Midheaven, or MC, the highest point of the birth chart: the point that speaks of public life, career, visibility, and the social role we are called to embody. This aspect certainly speaks of a great capacity for responsibility and resilience, the kind of strength that only someone able to endure such an exposed life could possess. But the square also suggests a path that was anything but smooth. It often describes growth through difficulty, public pressure, demanding lessons, and moments of deep discouragement.
In Princess Diana’s chart, this tension seems to reflect the weight of a role that required enormous composure, even when the private self was struggling to breathe beneath it.
The Eighth House: Hidden Truths and the Art of Rebirth
In astrology, when we read a birth chart, particularly full houses are always meaningful. They show where energy gathers, where a central force is concentrated, where a certain current becomes especially active throughout a person’s life.
In Princess Diana’s birth chart, the most populated house is the Eighth House: the area of the chart connected to depth, passion, darkness, death, intimacy, hidden truths, and transformation. In her Eighth House we find Uranus, Mars, and Pluto, moving through the signs of Leo and Virgo.
This is certainly a powerful signature. It speaks of intensity, emotional courage, and a deep connection with the invisible layers of life. It is perhaps no coincidence that, according to various accounts, tarot and astrology became tools through which Diana sought hidden truths, including the painful truths surrounding her marriage and her husband’s extramarital relationship.
